CCRN at TPE-GHP/GEWEX Joint Workshop

This year’s annual meeting of the Global Energy and Water Exchanges (GEWEX) Hydroclimatology Panel (GHP) was held in conjunction with the Third Pole Environment (TPE) project in Kathmandu, Nepal, from 17-19 October 2017.  Chris DeBeer, project manager for CCRN, represented the network at this meeting and gave an update on our activities, scientific progress, and next steps as the network draws to an end in 2018.  CCRN is currently the only North American GEWEX Regional Hydroclimate Project.  Chris introduced the Global Water Futures project (GWF; and explained how we intend to maintain our links to GEWEX through this new programme as an expansion from CCRN.  A written report for this meeting was provided and is available here

In addition, Chris represented the International Network for Alpine Research Catchment Hydrology (INARCH;, which is a GHP cross-cut project focused on cold regions alpine hydrological processes.  A written report on INARCH’s activities and progress is provided here.  The trip also provided the chance for Chris to meet Dhiraj Pradhananga, a PhD student of John Pomeroy and an important contributor to CCRN, in his home country and experience some of the local culture and cuisine.  This also included a visit to Tribhuvan University with Dhiraj where Chris gave a short presentation on the work of CCRN, GWF, and INARCH to faculty and students at the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

More information on the TPE-GHP/GEWEX Joint Workshop is available at, including a complete list of presentations and links to download them.
